The method involves performing non linear frequency conversion of an optical signal (1) of frequency omega 1 to produce an optical signal (3) of frequency omega 2. The signal`s (3) time format is analyzed with a time resolution between 300fs and 100ps at a sampling speed between 10 MHz and 1 GHz. The signal (3) presents a modulation identified with that of the signal (1) by a deterministic relation. The frequency omega 2 relates to a light radiation of wavelength lambda 2 lower than 1 micrometer. The signal (3) undergoes photon electron conversion into an electric signal. An independent claim is also included for a device for analysis of the time format of a rapid optical signal.
