The rail (1) has a movable section (4) sliding with respect to a fixed section (2) along a longitudinal direction. A retaining device has cylindrical rollers (22a, 22b) carried by the movable section and displaced between an active position and an inactive position. The rollers have friction surfaces, which come in contact with a surface (24a) of a strip (24) connected with the fixed section for retaining the movable section through friction in the active position. The rollers allow sliding of the movable section with respect to the fixed section in the inactive position.
