The method involves choosing a speed frequency from a maximal group and choosing a guided mode among different guided modes, which are associated to the frequency. Ultrasonic waves are radiated at the frequency, from a section, using an ultrasonic probe (17) by creating, at the level of selection, a normal constraint distribution that reproduces a distribution associated with a mode chosen at chosen frequency. A probe (16) is used for reception of the wave, where the probe (16) has characteristics permitting to create the reproduced distribution for the emission. An independent claim is also included for a device for emission and/or reception of ultrasonic waves guided in a structure.
