The positioning element has a base (25) angularly integrated to a distal femoral cutting guide (5). An orientation unit (26) is mounted in a pivoting manner with respect to the base, and a manual control unit (27) is movable with respect to the base. The unit (27) has a transmission unit (45) to drive orientation of the base with respect to the unit (26) according to the rotation of the unit (27) with respect to the base (25). An independent claim is also included for a device for guiding distal femoral cut along a distal cutting plane.
