The method involves identifying a post by a unique identification number, and storing the number in a database (DbS) of an informatic server (18) of a distributor for a franking machine (10). The post is digitized by a post digitizer (22) when the post is received by a recipient e.g. post office (MRD2). The number is extracted from the post by a personal computer (24). The extracted number is searched in the database. A sender e.g. post office (MRE1), is informed about reception of the post when identity exists between extracted number and a previously stored unique identification number. An independent claim is also included for a system for monitoring a post.
