The transmission has a wheel drive shaft (1) partially housed in a case (40), and a progressive friction clutch includes a rotating driving element (30) and two driven elements (5A, 5B) i.e. cones, carried by the shaft. The elements (5A, 5B) are integrated to the shaft in rotation. The shaft includes two semi-shafts (1A, 1B) freely mounted with respect to one another in rotation. The semi-shafts are directly or indirectly connected to a drive wheel of an automotive tractor vehicle i.e. lawn mower, to be driven. The elements (5A, 5B) are carried by the respective semi-shafts.
