The circuit (10) has a voltage converting circuit (16) for converting direct current low voltage (V-BT) delivered by a direct current low voltage source (14) i.e. storage battery, in a motor vehicle into a direct current high voltage (V-HT). A capacitive energy storage unit (46) stores the energy at high voltage. A controllable switching circuit (48) controls charge of the unit from the converting circuit when the switching circuit is in an open state and controls discharge of the unit towards a plasma reactor (12) of the vehicle when the switching circuit is in the close state. The controllable switching circuit has rapid switching transistors such as MOSFET transistors, insulated gate bipolar transistor and/or avalanche transistor.
