The method involves injecting eroding material i.e. abrasive oil, along a fuel flow direction through a conical or tapered hole (1) of a metallic nozzle of a fuel injector in an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. The eroding material is injected in a reverse direction of the fuel flow direction, where the total duration of injection of the eroding material in the reverse direction ranges from 1 to 30 seconds and is less than the duration of injection of the eroding material in the fuel flow direction.
