The manhole has a detachable coaxial water meter (2) placed in an upper end of the manhole, and presenting upstream and downstream conduit sections (4A, 4B) that are connected to water pipes respectively. A vertical finger (10) is provided with a horizontal groove (11). The sections of the meter are carried by a top plate (12), which presents an orifice (13) engaged on the finger. A positioning lock (14) has grip jaws for pinching the finger at a level of the groove, where connection between the sections of the meter and ends (5A, SB) of the pipes is obtained by simple fitting without locking.
