The method involves measuring deceleration of a heat engine based on measurement of variation of rotation speed of an alternator, and establishing a threshold value for the deceleration. The deceleration is compared with the value. A regulator of the alternator is permitted to raise an authorization setpoint for high excitation voltage after an interval time, in case of non-exceeding of the value from the deceleration and rising of electric load. The regulator is permitted to raise an authorization setpoint for low excitation voltage, in case of exceeding of the value from the deceleration. An independent claim is also included for a supply circuit of a field coil including a regulator with a speed variation calculation unit.
