The mechanism has a toothed sector (4) fixed on a L-shaped fixed part (1) i.e. fixed knuckle, pivoted with a L-shaped movable part (2) i.e. movable knuckle, whose driving unit drives a control unit constituted of a ratchet wheel and a pentagonal cam wheel (7), where the driving unit has a driving rod (8) mounted on a guiding bar (9). The control unit controls a stop lever (10) that is pivotally mounted on the part (2) and is co-operated with the control unit so that the control unit is driven to cause, alternately, the engagement/disengagement of teeth (10.2) on the lever with/from the sector. An independent claim is also included for a lateral swinging door of a vehicle i.e. car, comprising a fixed and movable parts stopping mechanism.
