The head restraint (3) has a fixation structure comprising two vertical maintaining rods (4) i.e. steel tubes, and fixed to a seat (1) supporting a support surface (5). The support surface is arranged above the seat for serving as a support to a head of a seat occupant, and is laterally extensible with respect to the seat. The extensible support surface is covered with an extensible fabric type covering (8), and comprises two complementary mobile elements (6, 7) i.e. mobile cushions. The element (6) is in the form of a male comb, and the element (7) is in the form of a female comb.
