A diode and a method for producing a downward light-emitting organic light-emitting diode (OLED) are described. OLED comprises a microcavity formed between a cathode and an anode and having a plurality of organic layers including a light emitting layer. The method is characterized on the one hand, in that the organic layers comprise at least one layer of an organic material doped to offer a lower resistance to the transport of electrons; at least one layer of doped organic material to provide less resistance to transporting the holes; and secondly, in that the thicknesses of the organic layers can therefore be adjusted independently of their electrical characteristics in order to obtain optimum optical adjustment of the said microcavity for the wavelength to be produced from the layer light emitting.
