Fuel heating apparatus to aid cold starts in low ambient temperatures

A fuel heating apparatus 1 for a spark ignition engine having a pressurised fuel delivery system is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a chamber 12 for receiving a volume of fuel pressurised up to 350kPa; and means for heating the fuel within the chamber to provide heated liquid fuel to the fuel delivery system of the engine. The chamber 12 may be disposed proximal to and upstream of a point of fuel delivery, e.g. a fuel injector 18. The heating means may be a plurality of discs 16 each comprising an embedded electrical wire and fuel flow apertures 17. The apparatus 1 may comprise a controller 5 operable to interface with the engine ECU to control the temperature of the fuel. The fuel may be selected from petrol, paraffin, kerosene and diesel; and the fuel may be heated to between 100 and 140 degrees Centigrade in order to avoid fuel condensation.
