Free standing Electric fire with illuminated mist flame effect and perimeter heating

A free standing electric fire simulates 3D flames 310 using illuminated mist or vapour, and has a heating element, for example an air blower or radiant heater, configured so as to produce heating around the perimeter of the fire. The fire may have at least 2 transparent side walls through which the flame effect is visible and may have a chimney 300, the upper section of which may be supplied with vents 305 extending around the circumference through which heat is supplied to the room. The fire may include a mist generator, for example an ultrasonic transducer (810, fig 8C) or compressor (2203, fig 22), a mist reservoir (805, fig 8A), at least one side of which may be heated, and at least one outlet for the mist, the mist being agitated, for example by a fan (825, fig 8C). The application also includes details of the use of fuel elements (400, fig 7) to conceal light sources (410, fig 4), filters for the light sources to simulate the colour of flames (fig 18) and apparatus including heating elements (Figure 19), apertures (1010, fig 10) and baffles (1001, fig 10), to direct the flow of the mist.
