Ruthenium complexes and their use for a Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell

A ruthenium complex, represented by the following formula (I): RuLL' X2``` (I) wherein L is 4,4-dicarboxylato-2,2'-bipyridyl; X is selected from -NCS, -SCN, -SeCN, -CN and -Cl; ```L' is EMI ID=1.1 HE=36 WI=65 LX=559 LY=857 TI=CF ```wherein ```Y is -O-, -S-, -SO2-, -CF2-, -CCl2- or -C(R1)2-, wherein R1 is aliphatic group or aromatic group, ```Q1 and Q2 each independently is halogen, H, -CN, -SCN, -NCS or -SF5, B is H or -(Z-A)m-R2, wherein Z is a single bond, -CF2O-, -OCF2-, -CH2CH2-, -CF2CF2-, -CF2CH2-, -CH2CF2-, -CHF-CHF-, -C(O)O-, -OC(O)-, -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -CF = CH-, -CH = CF-, -CF = CF-, -CH = CH- or -C I C-, A is substituted or unsubstituted 1,4-phenylene, wherein one or two of = CH- can be substituted by = N-, R2 is H or organic group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, m is 0, 1 or 2. Preferred compounds include those wherein X is -NCS, and either Y is O or Y is -C(R1)2-wherein R1 is an alkyl group. The ruthenium complex is suitable for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) and has good photoelectric characteristics.
