PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst body efficiently preparing a high purity and high quality carbon nanotube by using thin-piece-shaped MgO containing transition metals in which a transition metal catalyst is highly distributed on a minute flat sheet structure in a catalyst-chemical vapor deposition method, and to provide a method for producing the same.;SOLUTION: The catalyst body for preparing the carbon nanotube is constituted of the thin-piece-shaped magnesium oxide (MgO) containing a particulate containing a group 8 to 10 transition metal, in which the particulate containing the transition metal is 1-30 nm in an average particle size, and in which the content of the transition metal is 0.1-1 wt.%, and the method for preparing the catalyst is disclosed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
