PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and highly flexible method for inspecting buried piping and capable of inspecting the overall length of a penetration part of piping even if the penetration part has a length of a few meters or longer without having to break a penetrated body such as an oil retaining wall through which the piping penetrates.;SOLUTION: Parts to be inspected of the piping 1 is the penetration part 1a of the piping 1 located in the penetrated body 3 and the vicinities of front and rear parts of the penetrated body. (A) A ferromagnetic metal foil 13 is wound on the piping 1 outside the penetrated body 3, and a coil 7 is wound over this. (B) After this, an AC current is passed through the coil 7 to generate guide waves for inspection in the piping 1 by magnetostrictive effects and make the guide waves for inspection propagate in the longitudinal direction of the piping 1. (C) Reflected guide waves formed by the reflection of the guide waves for inspection at the penetration part 1a are detected.
