PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular exchange bias device which can be used for detecting a magnetic field.;SOLUTION: The perpendicular exchange bias device 10 includes a buffer material layer 14 disposed on the surface of a substrate 12, a ferromagnetic material layer 18 disposed on the surface of the buffer material layer, and an antiferromagnetic material layer 22 disposed on the surface of the ferromagnetic material layer. The magnetization of the ferromagnetic material layer is directed in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the ferromagnetic material layer. The method for manufacturing the perpendicular exchange bias device includes a step of forming the buffer material layer on the surface of the substrate, a step of forming the ferromagnetic material layer on the surface of the buffer material layer, and a step of forming the antiferromagnetic material layer on the surface of the ferromagnetic material layer, wherein the magnetization of the ferromagnetic material layer is directed in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the ferromagnetic material layer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
