METHOD FOR CONTROLLING PROLIFERATION OF UMBILICAL CORD BLOOD HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL AND APPLICATION THEREOF

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood in high safety in proliferating by culture the above hematopoietic stem cells. PSOLUTION: The method includes the following processes: the hematopoietic stem cells are inoculated into a medium containing the ultrasonically treated liquid component of umbilical cord blood. Proliferation and differentiation of umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells can be suppressed as long as operations are performed in the presence of the ultrasonically treated liquid component of umbilical cord blood. On the other hand, proliferation of umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells can be promoted, in contrast, by inoculating the hematopoietic stem cells into a medium containing the liquid component of umbilical cord blood that has not been subjected to ultrasonic treatment. Thus, it is possible to arbitrarily control the suppression of the proliferation/differentiation and the promotion of the proliferation of umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells by using serum derived from umbilical cord blood.
