PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the polarized wave dependency of an AWG (arrayed-waveguide grating) type optical wavelength multiplexing and demultiplexing circuit.;SOLUTION: The optical wavelength multiplexing and demultiplexing circuit includes an array waveguide diffraction grating; an optical splitter; first and second arm waveguides connected to the optical splitter; an optical mode synthesis coupler, connected to the first and the second arm waveguides and optically connected to a slab waveguide of the array waveguide diffraction grating. The optical mode synthesis coupler couples a basic mode light input from the first arm waveguide with a primary mode and couples a basic mode light input from the second arm waveguide with a basic mode, thus a synthesis field is generated at the end part of the slab waveguide. The polarization dependency of the array waveguide diffraction grating is adjustable, by varying the difference between polarized wave modes at the phase difference between the basic mode light and the primary mode light of the synthesized field.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
