PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wastewater treatment method by an activated sludge process which can stably reduce the amount of generated sludge precipitating in a settling tank without using a particular bacterium and additional device and consuming a new coagulant and energy, in wastewater treatment equipment comprising a plurality of biological treatment tanks, a settling tank, and a surplus sludge pulling-out device for pulling surplus sludge out of the settling tank, and to provide an instrumentation control system and wastewater treatment equipment using the method. PSOLUTION: The wastewater treatment method by an activated sludge process using wastewater treatment equipment comprises a plurality of biological treatment tanks, a settling tank, and a surplus sludge pulling-out device for pulling surplus sludge out of the settling tank, and controls the amount of the surplus sludge pulled out of the settling tank so that a sludge residence time in the biological treatment tank becomes a predetermined sludge residence time, thereby suppressing generation of sludge.
