PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately evaluate impact of fed hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria on the environment in operation of bioaugmentation. PSOLUTION: The method for evaluating environmental impact of feed of hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria to soil includes process of, in ä1} contaminated soil, (1) feeding hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria, (2) extracting a DNA from soil after the (1) feeding, (3) using the DNA extracted by the (2) and measuring (1a) the number of soil bacteria, (1b) number of hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria obtained by a Real-time PCR method and (1c) band pattern of soil bacterium DNA obtained by a PCR-DGGE method and (4) evaluating environmental cleaning or recovery effect in contaminated soil on the basis of the measured results (1a)-(1c) obtained by the (3), and processes of, in ä2} non-contaminated soil, (5) feeding hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria, (6) extracting a DNA from soil after the feeding (5), (7) using the DNA extracted by the (6) and measuring (2a) number of soil bacteria, (2b) number of hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria obtained by a Real-time PCR method and (2c) band pattern of soil bacterium DNA obtained by a PCR-DGGE method and (8) evaluating environmental impact in non-contaminated soil on the basis of the measured results (2a)-(2c) obtained by the (7). The method for cleaning or recovering contaminated soil includes using the result obtained the evaluation method. The method for screening hydrocarbon decomposition bacteria is provided.
