PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accumulation quantity estimating device and an accumulation quantity estimating method, capable of accurately calculating a soot accumulation quantity deposited on a filter.;SOLUTION: This accumulation quantity estimating device is provided for estimating the accumulation quantity of soot in the filter 17 for collecting particulate matter included in exhaust gas. An SOF discharge quantity and a soot discharge quantity are respectively calculated from an operation state of an engine 1. An SOF sticking quantity being a difference between a sticking quantity of SOF newly sticking to an exhaust passage member for constituting an exhaust passage upstream of the filter 17 and a separation quantity of SOF separated from the exhaust passage member, is estimated by using the SOF discharge quantity. A soot sticking quantity being a difference between a sticking quantity of soot newly sticking to the exhaust passage member and a separation quantity of the soot separated from the exhaust passage member, is estimated by using the soot discharge quantity.
