PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check the quality of the laser welding by correctly grasping the welding state with a simple constitution, and to execute the laser welding of a member to be welded with the excellent quality. PSOLUTION: In a laser beam welding method, a low melting point material 1 having the melting point lower than that of a member W2 to be welded is covered on a surface of the member W2, and the surface of the member W2 is irradiated with laser beam LB to measure at least one of the molten length and the molten area of the low melting point material 1, and the output of the laser beam LB is controlled while determining whether or not the heat input in the member W2 is adequate, based on at least one of the molten length and the molten area. The image of the surface of the member W2 irradiated with the laser beam LB is picked up by an image pickup means. By computing the image data obtained from the image pickup means 2, at least one of the molten length and the molten area of the low melting point material 1 is measured.
