PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dissimilar material joining method between steel and a light alloy capable of performing the spot welding between similar materials between steel and steel without any limitation or problem in the condition of application to the spot welding, and obtaining the high joining strength by the synergetic effect including the calk-joining between a light alloy member and a ferrous rivet. PSOLUTION: The dissimilar material joining method between a steel member 10 and a light alloy member 20 includes joining the light alloy member 20 and a ferrous rivet 1 beforehand in the previous process preceding the spot welding, and then performing the spot welding of the rivet 1 to the steel member 10. In the method, a caulking recess 5 is formed in the rivet 1, a rivet stem part 3 is embedded in the light alloy member 20 and when the rivet stem part 3 is penetrated, a light alloy material 23 is subjected to the plastic flow in the recess 5, and the light alloy member 20 is caulked with the rivet 1. Then, the spot welding for forming a welding nugget 12 only in an interface range between the rivet stem part 3 and the steel member 10 is performed to manufacture a dissimilar material joined body.
