In recent years, all over the world, technical innovationsnhave been in progress in indust r ies to deal wi thnenvironmental issues such as air pollution, energy savingnand recycling. A particularly important issue amongstnall to prevent global warming is the reduction in thenemission of carbon dioxide. In Japan, 20% of the totalncarbon dioxide emission comes from the transport sector,nand 90% of this is emitted from vehicles1. Therefore, it isnan urgent task for automobile manufacturers to improventhe efficiency in fuel consumption so that the amount ofncarbon dioxide can be reduced.
