PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production control system and method, for estimating failure probabilities of single or multiple persistent or intermittent faults in a production system with multiple production resources. PSOLUTION: This invention relates to the production control system and method for estimating production resource failure probabilities, wherein a set of four count values is maintained and updated. The current fault probability for each resource is estimated for single or multiple, persistent or intermittent faults based on the corresponding count values, wherein a first count value mSB11/SBis the number of plans where the resource m is used and failed, a second count value mSB10/SBis the number of plans where the resource m is used and succeeded, a third count value mSB01/SBis the number of plans where the resource m is not used and failed, and a fourth count value mSB00/SBis the number of plans where the resource m is not used and succeeded.
