PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a splicing structure of optical fibers, in which the generation of multipath interference (MPI) is suppressed when optical fibers in which bending resistant characteristic is improved by giving cavities in the fibers are used; and to provide a single mode fiber which suppresses the generation of MPI.;SOLUTION: A second single mode fiber 20 includes cavities 28 at a second clad part, and has small bending loss. A solid part in which the cavities 28 are collapsed in a length L0 exists in the second single mode fiber 20 at the part to be spliced with a first single mode fiber 10a, the light of linearly polarized (LP) 11 mode is largely attenuated and the generation of MPI is suppressed in the solid part.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
