An optical pattern based on the optical characteristics irregularity of the security card 200 can be image-picked up by the CCD element 124c. A CPU 131 inputs an authentication-intended information from a picture input part 125 and collates it with authenticated information which is previously registered in a memory 132. Thus, the authentication of the security card 200 is judged. The optical characteristics irregularity of the security card 200 is obtained by intentionally generating distortion and thickness irregularity at the time of forming the card.
