P To provide a data compression method which employs a compression method based ON sub-band encoding and allows a loop to be reproduced from a halfway position of a frame. PSOLUTION: A MPEG encoder 3 divides a set of data composed of a plurality of pieces of data before compression into the first to n-th frames and divides data before compression, which belongs to each frame and into a plurality of sub-band signals having the same band width and quantizes the sub-band signals ON the basis of psychoacoustic analysis to generate the first to n-th compressed frames. An ADPCM encoder 4 compresses data from data before compression at a loop reproduction point to the last data before compression of a frame which the loop reproduction point belongs and by a compression method free from decode delay to generate data for loop.
