PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault location detecting apparatus for optical lines whereby a communication network can economically be in operation and the reliability of the communication network can be enhanced. PSOLUTION: The fault location detecting apparatus for optical lines in a wavelength division multiplexed passive optical subscriber communication network is configured to include: a central base station CO wherein each of downstream transmitters Tx and each of upstream receivers Rx are installed; an intermediate node RN connected to the central base station CO by the optical lines 11, 21, 22, 31; and each of subscriber devices ONUs connected to the intermediate node RN by other optical lines 12, 23, 24, 32.
