PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical system and method for submerging liquid carbon dioxide in the depths of the sea, by which a storage container containing liquid carbon dioxide is submerged up to the seabed without bursting and long-term storage on the seabed is enabled. PSOLUTION: The storage container 2 is submerged to the seabed while discharging carbon dioxide which vaporizes and increases the inner pressure before it reaches the depths of the sea into the sea outside the storage container 2 and minimizing the discharge as small as possible. In order to minimize the discharge, the storage container 2 is covered with a protective container 4 having one or both of heat insulating property and pressure resistance, and the covered storage container 2 is submerged until it reaches at least the critical depth. The submerging speed of the storage container 2 is relatively high up to the critical depth and relatively low in depth exceeding the critical depth. The high-speed submergence is achieved by the action of a relatively heavy sinker 25 or the use of driving force 33 for drawing into the sea. The low-speed submergence is achieved by the action of a relatively light sinker 25, gravity fall of the storage container 2 or the use of a deceleration umbrella 26 of the storage container.
