PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polymerizable compound having tolan skeleton, high birefringence, low crystal-nematic liquid crystal transition temperature and excellent compatibility with other liquid crystals and useful for a phase- difference film, etc. ;SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula I (Xa, xb and Xc are each F, Cl or methyl; (l), (m) and (n) are each 0-4; (q) and (t) are each 1-20, R1 and R2 are each a 1-18C bivalent hydrocarbon group; Y1 and y2 are each a linking group selected from single bond, O and S; Q1 and Q2 are each acryloyloxy, methacryloyloxy, acrylamido or the like), e.g. the compound of formula II.
