PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend a storage capacity without increasing the number of other volumes to be assigned to a logical volume or reducing the access efficiency to data.;SOLUTION: A logical volume generation means 4 generates, in response to a storage area extension request, a second logical volume 2c to which storage areas 6a and 7a within storage devices 6 and 7 assigned to second logical volumes 2a and 2b and a storage area 8a within a storage device 8 are assigned. The logical volume generation means 4 registers correspondences of the second logical volume 2c with the storage areas of the storage devices 6-8 to second logical volume configuration information. A storage area extension means 5 extends the storage area of a first logical volume 1a stored in first logical volume configuration information to a storage capacity designated by the storage area extension request, and associates a new second logical volume 2c to the first logical volume 1a extended in storage area.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
