PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a stator core having superior strength characteristics and preventing the occurrence of gaps between sheets.;SOLUTION: A work receiver 21 and a work presser 25 are formed with projecting portions 31 and 32, respectively, which project in the axis direction to support the peripheral edge portion of a laminated core 6, wherein the loaded laminated core 6 is received with its shaft being centered. After the external edges of the sheets slightly tapered and thinned in the peripheral edge portion of the laminated core 6 are brought into close contact with each other, and at the same time, the external edges of the sheets and the projecting portions 31 and 32 are brought into close contact with the external edges of the sheets, the external edges of the sheets are more strongly bonded together and then are ironed. According to this manufacturing method, the external edges of the sheets become readily subject to plastic deformation, since they become more strongly bonded together, which enables proper ironing, eventually preventing the occurrence of gaps between the sheets.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
