PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for selecting a category for automatic retrieval by making it unnecessary for a user to designate a category for implicit retrieval, and for selecting a category for retrieval according to the retrieval circumstances of the user, and for changing the selected category as necessary.;SOLUTION: This retrieval server is provided with a retrieval request receiving part which receives a request for retrieval from a client, a circumstance information receiving part which receives circumstance information in the request for retrieval from the client, a retrieval requesting part which requests retrieval to the receiving part, a category deciding part which decides the category for retrieval, a retrieval part which executes retrieval, a retrieval result generating part which performs the selection of the retrieval result or the conversion of the format, a retrieval result transmitting part which transmits the retrieval result to the client, a mapping update part which updates a parameter vector at the time of updating the retrieval result and a decision result receiving part which receives the decision result of a user from the client at the time of updating the retrieval result.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
