PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adaptive variable length coding device which can perform coding and decoding of a smaller processing quantity, an adaptive variable length decoding device which performs decoding of the coded data, and an adaptive variable length coding/decoding method and an adaptive variable length coding/decoding program using them. PSOLUTION: A generation frequency of acquired data DSBimg/SBacquired from a signal processing part 4, is counted in a counter part 22, and a ranking search part 23 searches the ranking information DSB1st/SBwhich is the 1st ranking of the counted generation frequency. A coding table update part 24 updates a recorded coding table memorized in a coding table memory part 25 on the basis of the ranking information DSB1st/SBobtained by the ranking search part 23.
