PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a standard method used in consumption of an MPEG-21 digital item is designed by a safe method and a problem that an intellectual property management and protection (IPMP) element/part is integrated into the whole of MPEG-21 framework.;SOLUTION: The standard method for expressing IPMP scheme description for the digital item to be used in the MPEG-21 IPMP system is described. IPMP is linked with a DID model of the MPEG-21 frame work. In addition, an interoperable and safe method is provided to an MPEG-21 IPMP system inplementor for constructing the entire IPMP for distribution and protection of digital item under MPEG-21 architecture. In addition, appropriate places for arranging IPMP information including important IPMP tool related control information and other tool information are designed.
