PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new aluminumoxy compound useful as an addition polymerization catalyst component used together with a transition metal compound, to provide the use of the aluminumoxy compound, and to provide a copolymer having a high mol.wt. ;SOLUTION: (1) A modified aluminumoxy compound modified a hydroxyl group- having compound and having a 30 ppm strength M2/10 ppm strength M1 ratio of 0.60 in 27Al-solid NMR spectrum. (2) an addition polymerization catalyst component comprises the compound. (3) An addition polymerization catalyst component using the catalyst component. (4) A method for producing an olefinic polymer comprises singly polymerizing or copolymerizing an olefin in the presence of the catalyst. (5) A method for producing an alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer comprises singly polymerizing an alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon or copolymerizing the alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon with an olefin. And (6) a copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon with the olefin has a number-average mol.wt. (Mn) of 700,000 and a mol.wt. distribution (weight-average mol.wt.
