PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device incorporated in a package case which can efficiently suppress the temperature rise of the electro-optical device on which comparatively powerful projection light is made incident. PSOLUTION: The electro-optical device incorporated in the packaging case is composed of: the electro-optical device (500) in which the projection light is made incident on an image display region; a plate (610) which is arranged facing the surface of the electro-optical device; a cover (620) which covers the electro-optical device and has a first part abutting on the plate; and the packaging case (601) for housing the electro-optical device by holding at least a part of a peripheral region located around the image display region in the electro-optical device by at least either one of the plate or the cover. The plate is made of a plate-shaped member and has a folded back section (613) which is bent from the plate-shaped member and includes a second part abutting directly or indirectly on at least a part of the electro-optical device.
