The ring (1) has an element (2) with two free ends (8, 10) arranged around a leg of a bird, where the ends of the element have a closure (6). The closure is provided with a retaining unit. The closure includes a lip part that is fixed at one of the ends of the element, and an opening that is formed at the other end of the element. The lip part is inserted into the opening by utilizing a locking unit. A hook-shaped portion (11) is fixed in a free end of the lip part during closing of the ring.
