METHOD FOR PROMOTING PHYSIOLOGICAL REVASCULARIZATION BENEFITS OF ISCHEMICAL RETINAL FABRIC AND TREATMENT METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING AND EVALUATING THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY FOR POTENTIAL NURAL DISEASE TREATURES The present invention provides a treatment method for promoting beneficial physiological revascularization of ischemic retinal tissue. The method comprises administering to a mammal suffering from retinal vascular ischemia a therapeutically effective amount of an angiostatic tryptophanyl tRNA synthetase (TrpRS) fragment, thereby inhibiting pathological neovascularization while promoting beneficial physiological revascularization of damaged retinal areas. In a preferred embodiment, the angiostatic TrpRS fragment is T2-TrpRS or T2-TrpRS-GD. Preferably, the mammal is a human patient suffering from retinal ischemia. A screening method for identifying and evaluating therapeutic agents for treating retinal neovascular diseases is also disclosed.
