The present invention relates to pretreatment and hydrolysis processes of plant biomass. The product obtained by said process is substantially useful as an input in the industrial production of ethanol and / or other alcohols. In a preferred aspect, the process of the invention provides a process comprising the steps of: a) pre-treating the lignocellulosic plant biomass with an alkaline hydrogen peroxide solution; and b) Enzymatic hydrolysis of the pretreated biomass using mixtures comprising cellulases, β-glycosidases, hemicellulases, or combinations thereof.
