The aqueous microdispersion comprises microparticles containing copolymer was prepared by copolymerizing 2- [3- (2H-benzotriazol-2-yl) -4-hydroxyphenyl] ethyl methacrylate (formula I) with minor amounts of a reactive vinyl type comonomers and crosslinkable components. Microdispersion microparticles with dimensions smaller than 300 nanometers is prepared by grinding the copolymer in a bead mill in the presence of sulfated oxyethylated fatty alcohol, and is intended for use as a UV filter to photoprotective cosmetic formulations. Photoprotective creams containing microdispersion benzotriazole copolymer having a high efficacy in filtering ultraviolet radiation in the UVB and the UVA region of the solar spectrum.
