According to the present invention, methods for treating neoplasia using a chemotherapeutic agent and radiation are provided. The described combination of radiation therapy and a compound according to the present invention creates a synergistic effect in the treatment of cancer. The compound of formula (I) where X, Y, Z, R and R are defined herein, sensitizes cells, making them more sensitive to the effects of radiation therapy.
