The present invention relates to nucleic acid primers and probes to detect one or more fungal and yeast species. More specifically the invention relates to the P2, P2A and P2B gene sequences (also known as 60S acidic ribosomal P2,RLA-2-ASPFU, Allergen ASP f8 or Afp2), the corresponding RNA, specific probes, primers and oligonucleo tides related thereto and their use in diagnostic assays to detect and/or discriminate fungal and yeast species.
