Disclosed is a low-cost weather protection device for the protection of special plant cultures (4) which are sensitive to moisture and sunlight, comprising at least one substantially waterproof protective skin (2,3) which is fixed to a carrier unit (1,8,9,10,11,12) and offers simple, effective protection of plants in particular (4) against the effects of the weather even over long time periods and for large-surface applications e.g. for hectare-sized surfaces to be protected. According to the invention, the protective skin (2,3) is fixed on the carrier unit (1,8,9,10,11,12) in such a way that it is partially pivotable, being able to swing out of a rest position due to the effect of wind energy, and at least one net (9), interweaving structure and/or grid structure on which the protective skin (2,3) lies is provided.
