The invention relates to the construction and the method of manufacturing Valve Regulates Lead Acid battery with plastic reinforced bi-polar plates. The bi-polar plates have positive active material on one side and negative active material on the other side. The lead conductors used are thin lead sheets rolled to the required thickness and reinforced with molded plastic frames and active material supporting meshes. However, the end plates are uni-polar and carry the terminal plates. Absorbent glass mat separators, commonly known as AGM separators are used to contain the dilute sulphuric acid electrolyte. The gases developed are vented out through a novel regulating valve. The battery as per the invention has an energy density of 120-140 wh/dm3 , a life expectancy of 4-5 years, Also, the batteries are capable of accepting very high rates of charge and a totally discharged battery can be recharged in about 1 hour time
