A PROCESS OF ISOLATION OF AN INSECTICIDAL COMPOUND 2-PROPYLPIPERIDINE FROM THE ROOTS OF AQUATIC WEED, WATER HYACINTH

摘要

The present invention relates to the insecticidal, insect antifeedant and growth regulatory property of an alkaloid 2-propylpiperidine against two major crop pests and its isolation from the root extracts of water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes (Mart). Plant material was extracted with acetone and the crude dried extract was fractionated by column chromatography. The bioactive fraction was separated on TLC and the active principle involved was chemically identified as 2-propylpiperidine.
